Keeping more than the final answer
An idea becomes more useful when people can inspect how it arose, what challenged it and why it changed. A final summary can lose those relationships, leaving the next person to reconstruct the reasoning.
Manthan investigates a shared space for this development. Its name draws on the image of churning: useful possibilities emerge through the interaction of competing contributions.
What was explored
AI personas using different models generated, critiqued and combined options. Their contributions were stored in a lineage graph with relationships such as derives from, contradicts, refines, combines and replaces.
The implementation included a live viewer and a way to export the graph to GraFOSa. It was designed as an options generator, with no deployment or payment role. HERALD is a separate protocol track for verifiable agent work. Its source includes envelope signing, a local ledger and a research testnet implementation. Integration from Manthan product writes into that signed protocol has not been established in this review, and current operation has not been verified. Explore the separate architecture tracks.
What the experiment taught
A recorded run produced an extensive provenance graph. Its later output collapse prompted a post-mortem. The volume of generated material does not tell us how many contributions were useful.
The experience makes a practical distinction visible: sustaining generation is different from sustaining valuable thinking. A graph can preserve the development of ideas, while the quality of those ideas still needs examination.
A place in the longer journey
Manthan contributes to collective intelligence through provenance, challenge and revision. Its idea lineage also informs questions about how useful knowledge might carry forward as people, tools and systems change.
The next direction is to evaluate what survives that process: which ideas become clearer through challenge, which should be discarded, and what another person or system can usefully take from the record.
