Microbots

A 2015 thought experiment: machines composed of many small cooperating units under a manager, like cells under DNA.

The original essay

Micro-robots as these are termed may be essence of new technology world.

Why?

Comparing the human structure and how it is built from cells and how its characters are defined by its DNA.

Can the same logic be true for computer, where a computer or any machine will be built as not as full, but as complex combination of various microbots and microbot manager acting as controlling unit and hence defining the characteristics of final components

Uses:

Unlimited

Challenges:

What is critical properties of microbot?

  1. It is semi intelligent, so it knows what commands to take and who the boss is.
  2. It has knowledge of its environment and surrounding and thus ability to collocate and take shapes required
  3. Strong cohesion/adhesion
    1. Various shapes need strength, tenacity …. Etc. and this will require individual components strong affinity to each other (may be molecular level)
  4. What this matter will made of (microbot)
    1. I don’t believe it will be made of any metal, but one of base materials, and while I am writing this, I am thinking of carbon

Notes:

  1. Is transformer going to happen?
  2. Can the object will be able to change the shape
    1. Perhaps may be
  3. Can the object will be able to merge together
  4. Will microbot manager be a microbot (ideally… but in term of size and other constraints, it may not be)
    1. It may be possible that a set of microbots essentially be the part of core (microbot manager) committee, where it is possible to replace/recruit a microbot, if other goes out of operation (failure) and needs replacement
  5. Is there going to be spare microbots
  6. And is it possible to have different class of microbots
    1. Manager
    2. Worker
      1. Operation – 1
      2. Operation – 2
      3. Both Operation 1 and 2
    3. The last set of microbots may have ability to change responsibility based on need/requirement

Some of the options, I have dreamt of

  1. Car
    1. Car at event of crash, change the shape to secure the driver/passengers
    2. In case of crash and physical loss to some sections of car, it should be able to reassess and rebuild the car again
    3. So assuming a part of car is lost (non-critical) then microbot can adjust to fix the car
  2. Bullet proof vest
    1. Based on the impact, it knows which section has lost, so other components strengthen it
    2. In case microbots are able to identify the danger, so they can regroup to ensure that, what may optimal strategy to ensure best protection

Other challenges:

  1. Shape changing machines…
    1. Security
    2. Purpose
    3. Tracking
  2. What stops this objects from being human counterpart, instead of being a car, lets make human
  3. Is microbots are going to tied to one micromanager (or a suite of micromanager)
  4. How can I update my microbot (cycle) to microbot (bike)
  5. Risk of having a rouge machine
  6. Can microbot regenerate … yes
    1. In world of microbots, quelled microbots can get together to make a new better microbot
  7. Can it
    1. Yes
  8. Based on this, when a person is sitting in a car, what assurance he has, it will be car at end of journey also…
  9. AI and microbot will make a scenario where machines will have stronger presence then human
