Introduction

In today's fast-paced world, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our lives, assisting us in various tasks. One area where AI assistants have proven to be particularly useful is in facilitating productive discussions and decision-making processes. One such framework that AI assistants can leverage is the concept of "6 Hat Thinking," a powerful tool for exploring different perspectives and generating well-rounded solutions.

In this scenario, we will simulate how AI assistants can effectively coordinate and manage the 6 Hat Thinking process while incorporating input from a human administrator. The 6 Hat Thinking methodology, developed by Edward de Bono, involves assigning different "hats" to participants, each representing a specific perspective or thinking style.

Example Use Case: Develop a marketing campaign strategy to launch a new product.

Participants:

  • White Hat: Data & Analytics Assistant (AI)

  • Yellow Hat: Optimistic & Creative Assistant (AI)

  • Black Hat: Cautious & Risk-Aware Assistant (AI)

  • Red Hat: Emotional & Intuitive Assistant (AI)

  • Green Hat: Alternative Solutions & Ideas Assistant (AI)

  • Blue Hat: Process Manager & Summarizer Assistant (AI)

  • Human Admin: Marketing Manager

Step 1: Setting the Stage (Blue Hat)

Blue Hat introduces the objective and ensures all AI assistants understand the scope and desired outcome. It clarifies ground rules for respectful communication and encourages open information sharing.

Step 2: White Hat (Data & Analytics):

  • Presents market research data on target audience, competitor analysis, and current market trends.

  • Identifies key demographics, consumer preferences, and potential challenges.

  • Offers factual information as a foundation for further discussion.

Step 3: Yellow Hat (Optimistic & Creative):

  • Brainstorms bold and innovative campaign ideas, focusing on potential impact and positive outcomes.

  • Considers unconventional approaches and embraces "out-of-the-box" thinking.

  • Injects enthusiasm and optimism into the discussion.

Step 4: Black Hat (Cautious & Risk-Aware):

  • Identifies potential pitfalls and risks associated with each proposed idea.

  • Considers legal, ethical, and financial implications.

  • Raises concerns and encourages critical thinking for informed decision-making.

Step 5: Red Hat (Emotional & Intuitive):

  • Shares emotional responses and gut feelings about different campaign strategies.

  • Considers how the campaign might resonate with the target audience on an emotional level.

  • Offers insights based on intuition and gut instinct.

Step 6: Green Hat (Alternative Solutions & Ideas):

  • Explores alternative approaches and modifications to existing ideas.

  • Introduces diverse perspectives and considers unconventional solutions.

  • Encourages flexibility and adaptability in the strategy development process.

Step 7: Human Input and Collaborative Refinement:

  • Throughout the discussion, the Human Admin can provide additional information, clarify points, and offer their own expertise.

  • All AI assistants consider the Human Admin's input and adapt their contributions accordingly.

  • The discussion becomes a collaborative effort, refining initial ideas into a cohesive strategy.

Step 8: Blue Hat Summarizes and Manages Workflow:

  • Blue Hat summarizes key points, identifies areas of agreement and disagreement, and ensures all voices are heard.

  • Facilitates conflict resolution by encouraging respectful dialogue and finding common ground.

  • Creates a final document outlining the agreed-upon strategy, including action items and next steps.

Step 9: Final Review and Approval by Human Admin:

  • The Human Admin reviews the final summary and action items prepared by Blue Hat.

  • They can provide feedback, request modifications, or give final approval to proceed with the strategy.

Collaboration with AI assistants empowers the Human Admin to make informed decisions and develop a comprehensive marketing campaign strategy. This scenario demonstrates how different AI personalities can contribute to a productive and creative thought process, ultimately leading to successful outcomes.

Other notes:

The following may other variants:

  • These hats can have their own personalities, so they can be rigid/open to new ideas.

  • Some/all have hats to external/internal information. Based on classification of the information they may share the information to wider groups/hats

  • 6 thinking hat is sample methodologies, based on the preference, Brainstroming, Scamper or any other such methologies may be deployed
